That is what Revive Machines is saying and though I was a Commodore kid over Atari back in the 8-bit days I do have to agree with the statement to a degree. The Atari 400/800 computers sure did create a path in graphics and sound that gave them a bit of a head start on some of the other 8-bits, even if that gap was closed up not long after.
Well without going down that rabbit hole, Revive Machines has set out to bring back the Atari 800XL back with a bit of modernization. The RM 800XL will retain all the original Atari 800XL ports plus a few new ones for modern day, along with being powered by RISC and FPGA processors. Extensive details are not being mentioned as of yet, but it will have original cartridge support along with SIO, joysticks and video, they are also adding USB and HDMI for a bit more modernization. There is currently no mention of a price or release date yet, other than it will be available to everyone very soon!
In the meantime, enjoy a few rendered images of the RM 800XL!
