I've got my C-Net Amiga BBS up and running on WinUAE. (The Golden Temple bbs.iswix.com:6800) and I spent some time playing with VICE getting a Lt Kernal setup working on C64 and C128. Now I've bought a C64U and I'm hoping to setup a C64 version of my BBS on it.
I'm somewhat confused about how to setup storage. I have USB and software-IEC available and have JiffyDos. Does Image BBS need multiple devices/drives/partitions or can it all run on one? Do I need to go and buy a physical SD-IEC device to have better support?
I'm trying to figure that all out before going through the mechanics of doing an actual install.
There are a few things to beaware of with the c64u. I have spent a lot of time stabalizing Image on my c64u & u64. First off your c64u still has outdated firmware and when the user connects they wont be able to type. Gideon has fixed this and put out a new firm ware that is for the u64 & u64-II but Commodore has yet to release it for the c64u.
Second, the sd2iec be it a phsyical unit or the internal software unit has issue with certain REL files some wont even copy over correctly if at all. When image makes the e.data file during setup on any sd2iec it will corrupt the file. This is also a firmware issue Gideon is currently working on.
With those two issue alone, the first one being fixed on the U64 I have a solid running image bbs (commodore64bbs.com:64) where I am using the SD2IEC with 4 partitions (as that is all the SD2IEC will support) for program files, another partition to hold subs/ftp, another for emails and misc. I am also using a real CMD FD-4000 4meg floppy drive for the .e .u .d files as this physical drive has no issue with REL files and the REL files image creates and changes often. So that fixed my REL situation. With days/hours of testing if I did not have the FD-4000 I would be using a c64u virtual 1581 inplace of the FD-4000. As I have proven with extensive use that the c64u/u64 virtual 1581 has no REL issue either, your just limited the # of files and space.
That is my setup so maybe it will help shed some light on yours, just note at the bare minimun you need to hold on till Commodore realeases the new firmware with Gideons modem fix. That is if your wanting to use the built in swiftlink.
I also am running my system in Turbo at 48mhz.
Again if your curious you can call it at Commodore64BBS.com:64
There are a few other issues but those are random and cause syntax errors time to time with image on the c64u/u64. Still ironing those out. I hope to get more info/video of my setup and install so it will help others.

On this topic, once I finish the TurboMode changes to Image, I will look into trying to use the built in fast IEC drives. I have an idea which I "think" might work and if it does, there will be no need for SDIEC drives or anything else..
