Well I recently decided to take my Image 3.0 BBS used for 8-Bit Boyz tutorial videos and make it the phoenix that will rise from its ashes as my Image 1.2a BBS "The Kats Alley" from back in 1990!
So that is the plan and I have recently retrieved my Image 1.2a disks from back then but most of my artwork and CG animations are lost due to aged floppies. Though some of the art work (not much) was recovered so I will incorporate that as I can.
With out going into much more detail you can now get on the BBS using telnet at the following address: bbs.8bitboyz.com:6400
Today was just baby steps such as setting up more user levels, a message board to be able to communicate on the BBS and a UD base. The first thing I did was to update my 3.0 with the latest updates that @larryhedman release back in March 2021 which is available here: https://8bitboyz.com/2021/03/14/download-image-bbs-v3-0-update-mar21/
After that I did run into a couple of minor issues:
- After the update @Bucko noticed I needed to fix a GOSUB in the IM.PRG due to 3 characters of garbled text appear on the screen after a new user registers and sends feedback. To do this I had to load IM.prg and go to line 45 and change the "GOSUB47" to be "GOSUB90". Then scratch the IM.prg off the disk before I saved this corrected IM.prg in its place.
- The last thing for the day was in the subboards. When I posted a message anyone could see it was available to read but it would not show the body/text of the message. This was fixed by creating a blank file named "nm.origin" on my email drive. Once that file was created my message in the subboards was visible to all!
Stay tuned for more to come...

So very little progress tonight, I modified the system macros and chased my tail in circles trying to figure out Auto Maintenance as to why it was not showing the new user(s) in the news file. Turns out it was doing its job but I had to change the new file subject in the news editor to match the output filename from auto maint. Thanks to @Bucko once again for helping out on that one.

Much has happened the past 4 days.. I was able to put into place my s.login 1, s.chat 1 and s.mail files from the original Kats Alley back in 1990, I did update the info on the s.login 1 of course to reflect the current connection address and such. I also copied the s.login 1 to s.login 1 80 and s.chat 1 to s.chat 1 80 to bring the old screens to the 80 column users.
Sunday the whole system was migrated from FD-4000's to a CMD HD which not only seriously improved performance of the BBS but also way more storage space and options! This migration how ever was a pickle at times and after a 4th attempt everything worked with out loosing a thing (knock on wood). Also a reconfiguration of the modem settings seemed to have fixed the carrier drop issue and now the system immediately detects the lost carrier and resets back to WFC screen very fast!
Sunday night after a covid brain fart and some craziness of Image a news files was created, mainly for testing purposes. Upload and Download at 38,400bps is working also with a 2500blk zip file for test.
Toyed with the G-Files and added Empire 5.1, that was a mistake as I see there are some 3.0 glitches, nothing serious and does not effect play as far as I could tell, but has some prompt effects with extra text. G-Files need to be addressed for the board that is for sure.
Next adding network echo's, application filed today (Monday) and approved so on to the next step.
That is the past 4 days in a nutshell with out the details of hours and days spent just repeating mistakes and relearning simple things that were not biggie to do about 30 some years ago.

A week has gone by and no updates! Well The Kats Alley has become NISSA Node #25 during this past week! Woot Woot! All thanks to Larry & Al!
I am still fighting with my origin tag as my line 2 of the nm.origin is not showing up, only line one. I think it is due to too many MCI codes. Will figure that out. I did find a fun way to turn your WFC screen into a kolorific display, that was a mod fail. hehe I did spend a couple days fighting with 80 column display and MCI codes not working right, but that has been resolved.
One important thing I feel I did was to scan my original Image 1.0 manual that is 30+ years old. I wanted to make sure I could duplicate it in the future if need be, being I am now referring to it a LOT!
I have a lot of plans/ideas going forward but so much other stuff going on in life I am slow moving. Stay tuned!

Today's progress is NISSA echo related. Figure out the nm.origin issue. Though the tag line at the bottom of everyone's echo post looks like 2 lines it is just one 80 column line with a line feed for the 2nd line. So using Commodore control codes for colors and such I was able to jazz mine up a little with some color and such.
Spent what time I had today for the BBS on this issue and calling other Image boards so not a lot to report in this log entry. Till the next time.

Nothing has been happening with the BBS other than it is online running, every hour is does a NISSA message exchange and that is about it. Between life, work and the Apple IIgs I have been playing with I just have not done much Image.
With that said the IIgs is not in vein as I am bringing it up to speed and already using it to call The Kats Alley BBS to test ANSI color gfx on the Apple IIgs. 😉
Stay tuned....

PalKat's log, BBSdate 00707.21 - "New User Welcome Emails (s.nu welcome).."
Things have been quiet with life taking precedence lately but I did find something to address today with the New User validation email. The issue is when your in VF and reviewing your new users and grant them access Image will ask to send them the new user welcome message. When I did this I kept getting an error 62 file not found, my "s.nu welcome" file was there on my S File drive but it would not recognize it. Well @Bucko advised me that in 3.0 there is a separate "s.nu welcome" file for each user group.
So I created a few , "s.nu welcome 1" (user level 1), "s.nu welcome 2" (user level 2), "s.nu welcome 3" (user level 3), etc...
Went back into VF (View Feedback) pulled up my new user, granted them their new access level and said YES when it asked to send them the new user welcome email, VIOLA it worked!
One of the next items on my list for Image is to build out the PFile section, stay tuned...

PalKat's log, BBSdate 1230.21 - "Image 3 updates.."
It has been MANY months with no updates as I have been busy with real life work and such. This week I did take some time in the slow down between Christmas and New Years to do some much needed updating to Image. I now have it fully up to date with the most recent updates as of 121821! There are a few nice new changes too like the activity and network logs on the WFC screen and the new user call history on the WFC screen (Thank you @bucko).
So now I need to start populating games and promoting the darn BBS!

i was wondering where i could get a copy of c-net 128 for my computer as i once ran a bbs with the software before.
please let me know
thanks chief
@chief Interesting timing on this question, I am in the process of revamping the downloads on here as I have a lot of items to add, one of which is C-Net 128. Until that happens you can always find it in the downloads on Future World II BBS
