What additional memory does IM support I have tried everything that is available in my Chameleon but I have not seen any visible benefit from using REU or GEOram ?!

There is no additional memory that IM can use, it only uses the 64k that is base on the C64.. You can use a RAM expander as a drive and put all of your boot files and pfiles on it that would speed up the loading process of those files, but that is about it..

This is clear where the RAM driver is placed in memory or does it need to be activated somewhere? I've tried the GEORam virtual drive but it seems to be confusing because IM erases it from memory at some point.

There really is nothing to do other then assign it a device number like 7 or 12, and use it as a drive. The only benefit to this is it is faster loading files.. Your boot drive would need to stay at 8 though but you could put the rest of the files on 7 if that is the device you choose..

I found mentions of this function in older IM revisions, 
but there is no mention or programs in newer ones. 
The instructions also do not mention which memory unit 
the program is made for, whether it is REU or GEORam or something else.

It's the REU unit 1764 or 1750 and is used as a drive, not extra memory. I am not familiar with the GEORam, but I know and C-Net both use the REU as a drive, either device 7 or 12...

Now I'll make sure I understood correctly.
The ramdrive you're talking about is more of a storage drive than additional memory,

something that was unheard of in this part of the world before the internet became widespread?

Correct, it is a storage drive but a much FASTER drive then a regular drive as it is all i volatile memory...
