One Good Sysop Memory

It was 1988, I had just graduated high school.  I had a graduation party for family, and needless to say I got a lot of money that day.  At the time I was getting ready to open my 3rd BBS with C-Net 12.  So I took that money and bought a Lt.Kernal Drive.  Sold me SFD's, 3 in total and kept my 1541.

When I got the drive I realized I had to open up the C64 and install something for the Bus Card that came with it.  No big deal.  C Net 12 wasn't huge or anything so I dumped it all on LU0.  It was amazing to have so many blocks free in one directory.  And the speed, I remember being blow away on how fast C Net loaded.  Like in 2 seconds.  It was crazy.  And then I set up the autoboot so that when I was at work and the power flickered it would load back automatically.

The summer of 88 was cool for this and many reasons.  Also started dating my future wife that I'm still with now.  And that BBS with all that power and speed became one of the best BBSes in the tri state area.  I was getting calls from NJ and all over for my DL section.

What a blast that summer was...

That's a great story!!!

@thekid That really does sound like a great summer!  What came of that LT Kernel?

@palkat I was young and stupid, I eventually sold it.  Was the coolest thing I bought for my 64....

Don't feel too bad we all been there done that. 😉

I gave a stack, and I mean a stack of Amiga 2000's, 2500's and a few 3000's to a recycler 16 years ago. It was right after my father passed and it was like my dad took over my mind and I had to reduce inventory!
