well here i am in 2023 and I hope to chat with some old and new friends of the c64 world as we know it ... that is if the scene has still been gone with the coming of facebook groups. A little about me I was a cnet mostly sysop back in the 80's and 90's here in cincinati ohio. so if anyone back from the 513, 606, 812 is around give me a shout.. and if your not in those still give me a shout. I dont care I will chat with anyone if i think they wanted to have a conversation about the old days on the commodore 64 and the days where everyone(or I thought) owned a floppy disk notcher so we could burn or wares on the back side of the disks for our 1541 drives. as for the othre drives 1571 well they already used the back I think. I you want to rant as to what your wanting to do or what you have done

Hey @cichlid544, welcome to the forum!

I too was a C-Net sysop back in the 80s starting with v9.6 and into the 90s with Image 1.2a.  Funny you brought up the warez exchange as I was just remembering the other week using spring break or winter break in school as a time to go spend the day at various buddies houses where we would bring c64's and 1541 and just copy disks all day to grow our libraries.  When not doing that then there was the warez BBSes that had the "large storage" to fill in the blanks of our libraries.

Good times. 😉

Hey @Cichlid544, I'm new here now. I spent the last few days attempting to set up a bbs on Vice. Not much luck until I got the BBS on a stick V2. I grew up in the 80s and had a Commodore, loved that machine. Graduated to a C128/1571 at least until about 1991 when I came home and found my c128 broken, including the 1571 drive.. my brother rage quit some video game and destroyed my computer. I wasn't in a great financial position to buy anything new for years. Eventually got a 486 and went from there.

Recently I've been dreaming about the old days when the BBS was king, interesting and fun times. I noticed a renewed interest in running legacy systems on real hardware so I started looking back into things. I always dreamed of running a BBS, so why not right? So begins my journey.

I was finally successful setting up a BBS last night (thanks to Bucko (i think)) .. There was 1 minor drive setting missing in the docs, but problem solved. Image BBS configured. Now, I just need a theme.....

@james That is great to hear about your BBS setting up fairly easy with Bucko's BBS on a Stick 2!!  Any time you have questions @Bucko is usually lurking around on the Image BBS forum here to help and answer!

That is really hard hearing about returning home to find your 128 setup in that condition.  Dare I ask what came of that 128 setup? 😬

@palkat We've been diagnosing via email, he's been awesome. Still having some modem config issues, hopefully solve that today.

As for the mighty 128... It was likely tossed to the curb. At the time the commodore scene had nearly died with the x86 and Amiga stuff blowing my mind. I hadn't heard from any of my former Commodorian compadres at that time, most moved on from the scene (growing up, getting jobs etc)... I was also moving across the country so I had little space in a backpack. Too bad, I'd love to get my hands on a c128/1571 again.

@cichlid544 That is all I did with the CNet DS-2 that I got from Kguide a couple years back. I never did put the DS-2 BBS online for public use but I was able to get it up and running and online for outsiders to telnet into it with no issues.  I have been toying with the idea of putting it up again but have another BBS I am starting to put together as my 3rd BBS online for public use.  It will be a bit before it is available to all though, too many other retro projects.

@Bucko is still king of the BBS to me with his many various ones and how they interconnect and so much more!

Thanks guys.. Yes, James that was me we have been going back and forth in email.. As I told you in email thank you for the tidbits of your issues, I will update the project this weekend and fix the doc file to reflect pfile disk instead of program disk and I have decided to include a e.modem file which will allow the new sysop to just config then boot up and the modem will be preset and ready to go including the lightbar functions.. At that point the only config that will need to be done will be the rest of the options in IM..

As for DS2, downloaded that file a few years back and also played with it.. Enjoyed the time I used it. Glad K-Guide was able to use my ideas to create a easy boot way to get DS2 installed and running. So... @PalKat look for an update in the next week of the BBS on  a Stick v2.1 with the minor fixes..
